Martin Scorsese directs this epic tale of Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), a man who spent 30 years of his life involved with the mob. Robert De Niro stars as Henry's mentor Jimmy and Joe Pesci stars as his psychotic partner Tommy. He starts out involved in petty crime before becoming a 'made guy', one of the most important members of the mafia. But when Henry begins to suspect that both the police and his fellow mobsters want him dead, his life becomes complicated. Very strong violence, with drug use and strong language throughout.

  • Martin Scorsese's parents have cameo appearances in this film. His mother takes on the part of Tommy's (Joe Pesci) mother and his father plays one of the wiseguys who takes Tommy to get 'made'.
  • When Joe Pesci's mother saw the film she told him she thought it was good, but asked why he had to swear so much.
  • Michael Imperioli, who plays Spider, the character shot in the foot for being too slow, went on to star as Christopher in the hit US mob television show The Sopranos.
  • Ray Liotta spent a lot of time with the real Henry Hill, on whom this film is based, to get a better idea of how to play him. He even listened to FBI phone-tap cassettes featuring Hill, while driving to and from set.
  • Ray Liotta turned down the role of Harvey Dent in Batman so he could star in this movie.
